Tai-chi is well-known for improving balance and coordination, but it does so much more…

If there was one way to tick (almost) all of the fitness boxes - including boosting your immune system, energy levels and sense of well-being – it would be TAI-CHI.

Do you want an authentic approach, directly connected to the Yang (the most popular style of Tai-chi world-wide) family in Hong Kong? I am studying with their main student, Jim Uglow, based in London.

Learn a series of softening exercises, devised by Mary Yang, which are fundamental to acquiring the skills needed in practising the Tai-chi form. These target every part of the body, starting from the top down. 

The form consists of movements which have martial applications but we’ll focus mainly on all the health benefits. “Ch’i-Kung”, which means “cultivating energy”, has its own programme in the Yang family’s teaching, but is also an intrinsic part of the Tai-chi.

Never get bored with Tai-chi! Its depth and range of understanding of the human condition, mind, body and spirit, can sustain you for the rest of your life.


Jonathan Drake has been studying this method of Tai-chi for over 20 years. He also teaches the Alexander Technique, the Art of Swimming and Indoor Rowing.
